Trefis Weekly Notes: Semis, Media & Telecom
Below we present some of the key events and news from the past week concerning telecom, media and semiconductor industry. More specifically, these updates pertain to Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), AMD (NYSE:AMD), Pandora Media (NYSE:P), DirecTV (NASDAQ:DTV), Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC), Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI), Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), CBS (NYSE:CBS) and Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA).
New Developments
Nvidia
At an investor conference, Nvidia announced its fiscal 2013 expectations. The company expects to earn revenue between $4.7 billion and $5 billion. Moreover, it expects that the growth will not be localized to certain segments, instead it will come from its entire GPU and mobile processor business. [1] Nevertheless the mobile business is likely to grow much faster according to the company. [2]
AMD
AMD has started shipping its long awaited Opteron processors based on Bulldozer architecture for servers. It will be interesting to see how this will impact AMD’s market share in the coming quarters. [3]
Pandora Media
Pandora Media is going to face more competition. Clear Channel Radio is upgrading its website iHeartRadio.com to allow the listeners to build personalized radio stations, an aspect in which Pandora specializes. [4]
DirecTV
DirecTV, along with some other alliance members, will be showcasing some of the latest RVU based solutions at the IBC Show in Amsterdam from Sept 9 to Sept 13, 2011. With RVU technology, DirecTV customers can receive content on every TV in their house, with similar functionality and experience on each without the need for a separate set-top box [5]
Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable has announced a new long-term debt offering. The raised debt will be used for general corporate purposes. [6]

Sirius XM’s CEO is expected to present at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference on Sept 14, 2011. [7]
Netflix
Netflix’s CFO will be presenting at Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference on Sept 21, 2011. [8]
CBS
CBS’ CEO will be presenting at Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference on Sept 21, 2011. [9]
DirecTV
DIRECTV will be presenting at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference on Sept 15, 2011. [10]
Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable’s CEO will be presenting at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference on Sept 14, 2011. [11]
Comcast
Comcast’s CFO will be presenting at Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference on Sept 20, 2011. [12]
