Nvidia’s new chip for mobile phones and tablet PCs
Nvidia recently announced that it has launched the next generation of its Tegra computing chip which will be used in smartphones and tablet PCs. The Tegra 2 is designed to have computing power that approaches that of PCs while minimizing power consumption allowing smartphone and tablet PC users to run more powerful software applications on their devices.
We expect the Tegra 2 and future Nvidia mobile computing chips to drive significant growth in the company’s still nascent mobile business. We’re forecasting that revenues from mobile computing chips will increase from about $136 million in 2009 to over $450 million by the end of the Trefis forecast period.
Despite our strong growth forecast, mobile computing is still a small part of Nvidia’s overall value. How much of the Trefis price estimate do you think is attributable to Nvidia’s Mobile & Game Console Computing Chips business?
A. 3%
