How Much Have Big Auto Companies Been Investing In Growth Opportunities?
We have compared the CapEx of the top three automakers in the world, which make up one-third of the global volumes. Volkswagen AG (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) leads its competition when it comes to CapEx as a % of revenue, however, its net investment (CapEx- D&A) tells a different story. Negative net investment means that the asset base has shrunk, i.e. the company is not spending enough to increase productive capacity. Although negative investment for a single year is not so telling, if the figure remains negative for a prolonged time, it will render the company less competitive.
