Salesforce.com (NASDAQ:CRM) has unveiled a new web based productivity app with social features built in – Do.com. Do.com essentially combines task management with social collaboration for teams, and is targeted primarily at small businesses. [1] Salesforce.com is one of the leading player in cloud-based, on-demand enterprise apps – a market in which it competes with heavyweights like Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL), SAP (NYSE:SAP) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). With all three working on cloud-based, on-demand versions of their popular enterprise apps, Salesforce.com is facing a lot of competition on its home turf. Salesforce.com has been adding more social features to most of its offerings, including Chatter, its social networking app for enterprises.

It is one of the leading players in cloud based CRM (customer relationship management) software. Its other cloud based software and platform offerings account for nearly 37% of its $124 Trefis price estimate, which stands around 4% below its current market price.

Do.com to help boost Salesforce’s share in the cloud computing market

Salesforce.com is targeting Do.com at small businesses and groups which are looking for a easy to use, web based collaboration tool. It has been built using HTML 5 and Ruby on Rails, on the Heroku platform, which was acquired by Salesforce.com last year. It is compatible with browsers on almost all platforms, including tablets and smartphones which support HTML 5.

Despite the increased competition in the cloud computing market with the recent entry of giants like Oracle, SAP and Microsoft, we expect it to increase Salesforce.com’s total share of the market, which is expected to be worth nearly $390 billion by 2018, to around 0.85%.
